HISTORY
The art of hand-knotted carpets in the Bukhara style was introduced at Rajasansi (Punjab ) by a muslim artisan in the early 19th century , when maharaja ranjit singh erstwhile king who brought Kashmir under his rule and many kashmiri carpet and shawls weavers migrate to Amritsar under his patronage . This patronage combine the availability of fine quality wool from neighbouring hill states ensuring the creation of exceptionally fine hand-knotted carpets and pashmina shawls . Rajasansi village in Amritsar district of Punjab near Rajasansi International Airport is especially famous for carpet weaving on hand looms.
